Susan Sontag

An American essayist and novelist, Susan Sontag died yesterday at age 71. They say she died of leukemia, but I can't stop having a suspicion that she was murdered by someone. Because she was almost the only person who dared to oppose the Iraqi war in America.

hard days

There still be so many things to work with in a day every day to learn English. It takes about 8 hours to finish all of them. I think it's too much. I feel like I'm studying all the day. I've got to reduce them. But as I said before I still don't know which one should be scrapped. Every materials seems to be necessary for me.

next time

Today I got the result of the test. The score was 850 ,same as that of previous one. But right after the test, I thought I could have got 900 or more. So It is almost devastating result.
But the average of this test was 440, it was 50 point lower than the previous one. I wonder why suddenly they were so strict.

I haven't received the result of the test yet. It seems that I made a mistake. After mailing the result ,the organizer of the test announces that on its website. I mistook that it has already done so ,but it hasn't. Maybe it will take 1 or 2 more days for me to get the result.

I'm receiving the result of TOEIC test today. I'm very scared of that because I'm not sure whether I'd well done on it or not. TOEIC is a acronym for "Test of English International Communication". It's a test for those who learn English.

Yesterday I started taking the course of English-Japanese translation. I was surprised to know that almost all contents written on the textbook had been known to me because I had already learned them.
These materials are mostly about the Linguistics. I studied that at the University.

I'm taking a correspondence course of English-Japanese translation from today. I got the whole materials by post. I glanced over them and thought that it was less hard than I had expected. Anyway I got to work on that for at least 3 months.

Today I got a mail that is advertising materials for learning English. According to the advertisement , It uses hypnotism to learn English. It makes you understand English more easily. What do you think of that? Basically I doubt that kind of things. I think the best way is a steady study.

I think what I should do now is "Disconnection". I mean I've been connecting to the internet almost all day everyday. I thought that's bad for my mental health. So I decided to limit the net-use to 4 hours a day including study hours. And I'm trying to listen to music ,read novels or something as much as possible.

Today I got a CD that I ordered from US Amazon last month. And the CD turned out to be a bootleg made in Taiwan. I was surprised to know that. What do you think ? Some bootlegs are being sold at a famous shop like Amazon without embarrassment. It's unbelievable!!

The Shipping News

I saw the movie "The Shipping News" to the end. My impression of whole story is
It's very difficult to say whether I like the movie or not. Maybe both of them.
I loved the beautiful scenery of Newfoundland far north Canada. And the camera work was also fabulous. Meanwhile I didn't like the characters in the movie much. Starting with the leading character , all of the people haven't made any decision to fight against their hard fate. They were just standing there. Eventually I didn't feel sympathy with them.

I started something I really want to do

Hello there! I'm tabi. That's the handle name for me.
Now I'm learning English in order to prepare moveing to some foreign country in a future.
I decided to write down what I study in the day on this Blog everyday.
And I am also going to write about whatever concerning English around me.

Today I saw a movie in English that title is "The shipping news".
That's the story of a man who was dumped by his wife and migrated to the far north where his ancestors were from.

When I see movies ,I see them in Japanese first and get the broad plot. And then in English. I simultaneously pronounce the words spoken in the movie.

So if there is someone who watch videos late at night and read lines loudly, maybe it's me.
